Learning Objectives 

  • Demystify debt, and utilize it as a tool to advance your organization’s mission.

  • Understand the role of Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFIs), how they can create economic opportunity for your organization, and how they differ from traditional financial institutions.

  • Learn what to expect from a CDFI loan origination experience.

IFF is a mission-driven lender, developer, and consultant that helps communities thrive, and a Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) certified by the U.S. Department of the Treasury. They are the largest nonprofit CDFI in the Midwest.

Jocelyn Velazquez (she/hers) is a Senior Lender at IFF. In her role, she is responsible for deal origination and underwriting activities across Northwest Indiana and Illinois.  Jocelyn is a passionate, solutions-oriented community development professional. She is deeply committed to a profession and life that centers advancing racial equity in communities and in her spare time enjoys volunteering on various boards. She currently serves as a Finance Co-Chair for Young Nonprofit Professionals Network (YNPN) of Chicago, Treasurer for Star Farm Chicago, a nonprofit urban farm in Back of the Yards, is a member of Elevated Chicago’s Capital and Programs Working Group and City of Chicago’s Food Equity Council Working Group, and CFW's Southside Giving Circle, and recently joined development advisory boards for Bright Star Community Development Corporation and Turning Red Lines Green.  Her hobbies/interest outside of work include anything in the realm of health and wellness, spending time with her brothers, and lending her financial expertise to her dad who operates a small business.
