As of spring 2021, volunteers are making nearly 60 weekly food deliveries, helping people register for the vaccine and providing technological assistance to those who are unfamiliar with new software and programs. TCEP continues to host its weekly programs virtually to nearly 250 participants and provides family mentorship opportunities based on their needs.

As first-generation Latina who studied education in college, Melanie has worked in the education field for almost 15 years and is currently working on obtaining her doctorate in education (Ed.D.). After having a family of her own and years of experience, Melanie started her consulting business to give back and serve nonprofits that were serving her community.

After joining the first cohort of the Chicago Surge Fellowship by the Surge Institute, Adria’s interest in focusing her career on racial and social justice grew. Adria has made it her business to support underserved communities in Chicago, from orchestrating efforts to support systemic social emotional development in students, to creating and implementing policy and practices around equitable distribution of educational resources.
